Achieving Fast BGP Reroute with Traffic Engineering Using Multiple Routing Planes
نویسندگان
چکیده
In today's BGP routing architecture, traffic delivery is in general based on single path selection paradigms. The lack of path diversity hinders the support for resilience, traffic engineering and QoS provisioning across the Internet. Some recently proposed multi-plane extensions to BGP offer a promising mechanism to enable diverse inter-domain routes towards destination prefixes. Based on these enhanced BGP protocols, we propose in this paper a novel technique to enable controlled fast egress router switching for handling network failures. In order to minimize the disruptions to real-time services caused by the failures, backup egress routers can be immediately activated through locally remarking affected traffic towards alternative routing planes without waiting for IGP routing re-convergence. According to our evaluation results, the proposed multi-plane based egress router selection algorithm is able to provide both high path diversity and balanced load distribution across inter-domain links with a small number of planes.

Traffic engineering and fast reroute are the two major applications of constraint based routing Traffic engineering is the process of controlling how traffic flows through a service provider’s network so as to optimize resource utilization and network performance[1]. Traffic engineering is needed in the Internet mainly because the shortest path is used in current intradomain routing protocols (...

Inter-domain routing policies are an important component of today’s routing infrastructure. Knowledge about these policies can be used for better traffic engineering, detecting misconfiguration, preventing policy conflicts and also, in understanding Internet routing. However, many domains consider their policies proprietary and rarely reveal them. Hence, techniques that reverse-engineer routing...
متن کاملTweak-it: BGP-based Interdomain Traffic Engineering for transit ASes
Today, engineering interdomain traffic in large transit ASes is a difficult task due the opacity of BGP and the complex interactions between the BGP decision process and IGP routing. In this paper we propose Tweak-it, a tool that, based on the steady-state view of BGP routing inside the AS and the traffic demands of the AS, computes the BGP updates to be sent to the ingress routers of a transit...

Network operators must have control over the flow of traffic into, out of, and across their networks. However, the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) does not facilitate common traffic engineering tasks, such as balancing load across multiple links to a neighboring AS or directing traffic to a different neighbor. Solving these problems is difficult because the number of possible changes to routing p...

PTIT, Ho Chi Minh 1 This paper presents the ability to quickly reroute traffic around error or congestion in a Label Switched Path (LSP) of MPLS networks. When label switched path established unusable (e.g. due to a physical link or switch failure) data may need to be re-routed over an alternative path. This paper include 5 parts. Part 1 introduce the essential of alternative path in MPLS when ...
